RAM is the part of the computer that allows programs to run. If you are in the market for a new computer or perhaps updating performance memory on an existing computer, it is important to know that RAM is not always created the same. In truth, there are several different types of RAM but you should not just install any system memory without first making sure the speed of the RAM coordinates with your existing system. If not, you will experience problems to include program crashes. If you are unsure, you can always contact the manufacturer of your computer, asking them for guidance on the best type of hard drive memory to buy.  To clarify some of the memory terms you will find, we have provided a brief outline:

  • RAM – Random Access Memory
  • EDO or EDO RAM – Extended Data Out
  • SDRAM – Synchronous Dynamic RAM
  • DIMM – Dual Inline Memory Module
  • SO-DIMM – Small Outline DIMM, which is used for laptop computers
  • DDR – Double Data Rate
  • SIMM – Single Inline Memory Module

While you do not necessarily need to know everything about memory, having a basic understanding will certainly help. Regardless of the memory, Inspiron memory, e-PC memory, Portable memory, or something else, always ask about RAM. This way, you will purchase the right capacity for your needs.
